E-Learning Instructional Design

Over the 2023-2024 academic year I completed the E-Learning Instructional Design Certificate program offered through UW Professional and Continuing Education. This page summarizes my practicum project and you can find other projects completed in the "Teaching + Design" page!

Practicum Project: Road Safety Champion Program

For my ELID practicum project I partnered with PacTrans and NW TTAP to convert the Road Safety Champion Program into a self-paced series of courses hosted on Canvas Catalog. Project Aims: Course Template + Badging Systems

As the instructional designer on the team I was tasked with creating a course template/shell and with proposing different badging systems.

Course Template: Home Page & Lesson Page

Of the key pages that need to be developed the home page and lesson pages are of critical importance. I designed the home page to be clear and approachable. The lesson page was built after several discussions with context experts that shared their vision of how they envisioned the course.

Course Template: About Page & Resource Page

Two other pages that I outlined was an "about" page that served as a course syllabus or introduction. The purpose was to connect learners to the broad picture and inform them about how they can make the most out of these online modules. The resource page was a request from a content expert and was designed to take a series of links provided in the curriculum and give more context to each resource.

Badging System Proposal 1

My first proposed method of badging was the idea that each individual module in the Road Safety Champion Program would merit a badge. This method would be motivating and flexible for adult learners.

Badging System Proposal 2

My second proposed badging system was to provide a badge after the completion of the entire set of modules. This approach would encourage learners to dive deep into the learning material and establish foundational knowledge in road safety.

Badging System Proposal 3

My third proposed badging system was to provide a badge for both each module and the completion of the entire module set. This method would encourage learners just interested in specific modules and those who are interested in surveying all the courses.
